Jan Bouwstra is the manager of the Research & New Business group that was established in April 2004. The goal of the New Business group is very clear: to conquer new markets by offering very specific expertise and skills.

For more than 50 years, Fuji has been performing photographic research and applying the results in our products. Photographic products are complex systems. We can use the expertise we have acquired in these systems in other, new areas. For example, we have been working hard to bring UV-resistant polymers to the attention of the international world of cosmetics. And in the area of biotechnology, there is a very clear focus on medical applications such as tissue engineering.

Our strength lies in being multifunctional. We are able to oversee complex technologies and combine a diversity of core disciplines. Our Japanese Dutch operational management is also an advantage: the sense of quality and thorough preparation that is part of the Japanese approach and the pioneering spirit of Dutch culture. Together they guide us to the best results.

The acquisition of new markets is not only our own effort. For example: a British firm of consultants is constantly monitoring the world market to find interesting opportunities for our nano-technologies. Our network used to focus primarily on cooperation in the area of research. Now we invest a great deal of energy in expanding our network with new companies. They are able to propose applications that we have not yet thought of.
